Call State Legislators about Water Plan

Dear List Members,

Please call your state representatives and senators and ask them to vote against the State Water Plan. Both the Georgia House and Senate, which convened only Monday, are moving quickly to approve this Water Plan tomorrow.

Two members of your board of directors participated on the Chattahoochee Advisory Basin Council for the development of the original plan. The new plan has been altered without public comment and has the following flaws -

It does not control or restrict interbasin transfers;
It does not follow river basin boundaries for planning and water management decisions;
It also calls for Regional Planning Councils that will be governed by political appointees with no assurance that Council members will represent a broad based group of community minded stakeholders; these planning districts differ from Georgia's 14 river basins. The plan does not allow local nominations for members of these councils.

Thank you.
