Lake Lanier Association's Shore Sweep Procedures
Procedures and Guidelines for the Lake Lanier Association's Shore Sweep

Shore Sweep is from 8 a.m. until 1:00 pm on September 29. We thank all the volunteers who generously give their time to remove trash and debris from Lake Lanier. Please note the following procedures during Shore Sweep:

  • Trash bags may be picked up from volunteers at the SITES(between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Please return filled trash bags to a designated dumpster at a Shore Sweep site.
  • Volunteers will receive a 2007 Shore Sweep T-shirt with the Lake Lanier 50th Anniversary logo or a 2007 scouting patch in return for filled trash bags.
  • If you are collecting styrofoam by boat during Shore Sweep, please bring foam to the following locations only:
    • Dawson County: War Hill Park
    • Forsyth County: Sawnee Campground off Buford Dam Road (Marker: 1 BR), Port Royale Marina (formerly Lan Mar)
    • Hall County*: Gainesville Marina, Clarks Bridge Park, Sunrise Cove Marina, Starboard Cove Marina, Aqualand Marina, and Holiday Marina.

Styrofoam must be left in the water at these Hall County locations. Please secure foam with stakes and rope which will be provided by marina volunteers. This year's Shore Sweep site at Aqualand Marina at the boat ramp a few hundred yards north of the marina office and store. Please do not leave trash at the previous site at the boat ramp at the far end of the docks and close to the marina entrance.

The volunteer appreciation party will be held again this year at Lanier Park off Buford Dam Road. Volunteers will receive a free lunch and beverages, and there will be entertainment. Each volunteer will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes at the party. At Lake Lanier Islands please pick up bags and register with the volunteers who will be in the parking area before the entrance to the Islands.
